We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh

To the tune of “We Don’t Talk About Bruno”; Lyrics by Hersh Rephun
(sung by Miriam and Baby Moses)

We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh – No, No, No
We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh – But
It was a happy day
It was my birfday!
A new baby brother
And there wasn’t a cloud in the sky
No clouds allowed in the sky
Pharoah decides all baby Jewboys must die
Bad news for me!!!
You telling this story or am I?
I’m sorry, mi hermana, go on…

Had to save my little bro
Miriam had to save me!
In a basket, in the Nile, he’d flow
Out of the river, the princess would take me!
He’s Jewish, but they’ll never know
In the palace, I’d stay, as an Egyptian, but anyway…!

We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh – No, No, No
We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh

Hey – Moses grows into a Prince, he sees the Jews mistreated
He knows it’s wrong so he steps in, when one is being beaten
Moses deals that wicked man a deadly blow
Now, he’s gotta run, G-d meets him at the burning bush
“Moses, listen son, you gotta make an ulta-urgent push
“Go back and say, ‘You let my people go!’”
“Will you let them go?”

His heart so hard, he won’t free the Jews
Plague after plague, and it’s still the same news
He just says, “No! I won’t let them go!”
We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh
No, No, No
We Don’t Talk About Pharaoh

1 – Water turning into blood, that didn’t phase him
Frogs, and lice – have YOU had lice?! – and still, he enslaved them
Flies in their eyes, their livestock dies – boils, hail, and locusts – darkness!
10 G-d slew their firstborn, but passed over us!
Finally, when the time came to leave
We packed up and rose with the tide
Moses said, “Let’s flee,” then he parted the Sea,
Though our bread had had no time to rise
So, we made Matzah instead

Pharaoh said, “Chase them down, make them dead!” but soon he turned red
When the Red Sea was closing!
Pharaoh watched
Let’s eat!
As his soldiers were tossed,
Can we eat now?
We’re eating now!

I can hear him now!
Um, Pharaoh
Yeah, about that Pharaoh
I really need to know about Pharaoh
Gimme the truth and the whole truth Pharaoh
Your matzo ball soup is here!
Time for dinner!

Sung Concurrently

His heart so hard, he won’t free the Jews
Plague after plague, and it’s still the same news
He just says, “No! I won’t let them go!”Water turning into blood, that didn’t phase him
Frogs, and lice – have YOU had lice?! – and still, he enslaved them
Flies in their eyes, their livestock dies – boils, hail, and locusts – darkness!
Killing of their firstborn, but G-d passed over us!
It was a happy day
It was my birfday!
I had a baby brother
And there wasn’t a cloud in the sky
No clouds allowed in the sky
Pharoah decides all baby Jewboys must die
Bad news for me!!!
Are you telling this story or am I?
I’m sorry, mi hermana, go on…
Had to save my little bro

In a basket, in the Nile, he’d flow
Out of the river, the princess would take me!
He’s Jewish, but they’ll never know
In the palace, I’d stay, as an Egyptian, but anyway…!

Don’t talk about Pharaoh
Every year we talk about Pharaoh
Not a word about Pharaoh
I never should’ve brought up Pharaoh

NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM!
